Winter in Ohio brings snow, ice, and unpredictable weather, which can make roofing inspections a little more complicated. We want our customers to feel informed, supported, and confident in what’s happening with their appointment, whether you’re scheduling for the first time or needing to re-schedule.
Here’s what you should know about winter roofing inspections when there’s snow on your roof and why safety and quality always come first!
Can you inspect my roof if there’s snow on it?
For safety reasons, we cannot get on a roof when it is snow-covered. Walking on snowy or icy roofs is a major safety hazard and can also cause unnecessary damage to your roofing system.
That said, we don’t want to leave you in the dark. When conditions allow, our team can still perform a partial inspection, which may include:
- A ground-level roof assessment
- An interior inspection of the attic or ceilings
- Reviewing visible signs of damage or leaks
To provide a full inspection and accurate scope of work, we do need safe access to the roof itself.

Can I still get a quote?
To deliver an exact quote and complete scope of work, we must physically get on the roof. We do offer online estimates, which provide a helpful price range, but final pricing depends on factors such as roof condition, material details, ventilation, and flashing that can only be evaluated on the roof.
Should I cancel my inspection if there is snow on my roof?
Not necessarily! We recommend keeping your appointment on the calendar so we can evaluate conditions when the time comes. If it’s unsafe to access the roof, our team will reach out to help re-schedule and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
Winter weather can change quickly, and staying on the schedule helps us move fast when conditions improve!
Winter Roofing Safety Warnings
We also want homeowners to be aware of a few common winter practices that can cause more harm than good.
Be cautious of contractors who suggest shoveling snow off your roof to access it. Not only is this extremely dangerous, it can also cause damage to your roof.
Additionally, most major shingle manufacturers do not recommend installing shingles in temperatures below 40°F. Cold-weather installation can cause shingles to become brittle and crack, prevent sealing strips from activating (increasing the risk of wind damage and blown off shingles), and may void manufacturer warranties.
Proper roofing work isn’t just about speed. It’s about doing it the right way the first time!
